Specialized Institutions

Ensuring cooperation and collaboration among mediation support actors is essential to support mediation processes effectively. With this objective in mind, the Mediation Support Unit (MSU) has established partnerships with several specialized institutions. Such collaboration allows MSU to draw upon the expertise of renowned specialists.

These partnerships provide opportunities for collaboration both at the operational and technical level and include training and capacity building within the United Nations and beyond, assistance in the development of guidance, access to academic research and analysis, as well as administrative and logistical support. Such arrangements also facilitate the deployment of experts from partner institutions in support of UN efforts.

Currently, MSU has established formal partnership with the following institutions:

  • Crisis Management Initiative
  • Folke Bernadotte Academy
  • International Security Sector Advisory Team
  • Interpeace
  • NODEFIC
  • Norwegian Refugee Council
  • Swisspeace

Additional partnerships are being established as needed; more informal partnerships also exist with a number of other organisations involved in mediation.
