Summary:
The armistice provides a definitive end to hostilities for the Korean war. It delineates the withdrawal of military forces and the establishment of a demilitarized zone as a buffer zone between the parties and to prevent the occurrence of incidents which might lead to a resumption of hostilities. It establishes a Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission and a Military Armistice Commission to supervise, provide observation, inspection and investigation on the implementation of this Armistice Agreement. The armistice also commits the parties to settle any violations of this agreement through negotiations.
