Agreement on the Implementation, Compliance and Verification Timetable for the Peace Agreements
Summary:
This agreement was signed by the parties at Guatemala City on 29 December 1996 in the presence of the United Nations Moderator, Mr. Jean Arnault. The agreement is a detailed guide for the implementation of all the commitments undertaken by the parties in agreements signed since 1994. It sets out a calendar for the phased implementation of those commitments and for the establishment of the Follow-up Commission. The agreement also requests the Secretary-General to establish a mission to verify all the agreements, into which the current United Nations Mission for the Verification of Human Rights and of Compliance with the Commitments of the Comprehensive Agreement on Human Rights in Guatemala (MINUGUA) is to be absorbed.
