Agreement on a Temporary Ceasefire and the Cessation of Other Hostile Acts on the Tajik-Afghan Border and within the Country for the Duration of the Talks (Tehran Agreement)
Summary:
This ceasefire agreement provides for the temporary cessation of hostilities until a referendum is held on the new constitution and the election of a new president of the Republic of Tajikistan. With a view to building confidence, the parties also agree that within one month following the signing of the agreement the authorities of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Tajik opposition would release their prisoners of war. In order to ensure the effective implementation of the agreement, the two sides agree to establish a Joint Commission consisting of representatives of both sides. This Commission will be the main element of the mechanism to monitor the agreement.
