This option report compares constitutional provisions related to customary international law. The sample of constitutions reviewed consists of almost 600 constitutions enacted since 1789. In addition to detailing the trends with respect to the reference to international law in constitutions around the world, the report provides sample constitutional provisions with respect to the following three categories: 1. Customary International Law as Directly Binding on the state, 2. Customary International Law as Binding and Superior to Ordinary Law, and 3.
