Electoral System Design and Conflict Mitigation- The Case of Lesotho

This chapter is an extract from the IDEA publication "Democracy, Conflict and Human Security - Further Readings." The chapter examines the history of electoral systems and elections in Lesotho culminating in the process, started in 1999, aimed at redressing the state's high incidence of violence conflict and political instability. It uses the case of Lesotho to draw lessons for other post-conflict societies.
