Somali Civil Society Discusses Somalia's Future

This article describes the May 2012 Istanbul Gathering of Somali Civil Society, which brought together traditional elders, academics, religious scholars and civic/political and women’s groups to discuss the post-August 2012 transition and the draft constitution. The gathering examined issues such as security, the constitution, economic reconstruction, social development, transitional justice and reconciliation. This document includes the communique issued by the gathering on May 30, 2012.
