Monarchy

This option report describes trends with constitutional monarchies. It identifies cases since World War II and presents data related to their powers. It also provides sample constitutional provisions relating to the power of monarchs. The sample of constitutions reviewed consists of almost 600 constitutions enacted since 1789. In addition to detailing the trends with regard to the right to the powers of monarchs, the report sets out sample constitutional provisions related to the following seven categories: 1. Character of the State and Monarchy, 2. Immunities, 3. Royal Property and Privileges, 4. Selection Issues/Qualifications/Succession, 5. Regency, 6. Removal/Abdication, and 7. Powers/Restrictions.
