Accession and Secession of Territory

This option report compares constitutional provisions related to accession and secession of territory. The sample of constitutions reviewed consists of over 500 constitutions enacted since 1789. The report takes note of any regional trends, provides sample constitutional provisions that include: accession of territory outside the country, when secession is allowed, and when secession is not allowed.
