Environmental Provisions

This option report compares the range of constitutional provisions related to the environment, and specifically environmental protection, the rights and duties of citizens and states vis-à-vis the environment, resource ownership, and the parts of the environment singled out for constitutional protection and/or assignment of ownership rights. The sample of constitutions reviewed consists of over 600 constitutions enacted since 1789. In addition to cataloguing the constitutional provisions with respect to the above categories, the report sets out sample constitutional provisions related to: 1. Environmental Protection, 2. Rights and Duties Pertaining to the Environment, and 3. Resource Ownership or Possession.
