This agreement provides for the cessation of hostilities, separation and assembly of forces and disarmament and demobilisation of armed groups. It also reaffirms the role of the UN in verifying fulfillment of the agreement.

This agreement declares the cessation of hostilities and provides for the transformation of RUF/SL into a political party, a programme of socio-economic development, reconstruction and rehabilitation. It also provides immunity for RUF members on any actions taken until the signing of the agreement.

This agreement provides for border security and confidence measures between the parties to the agreement. It calls for military disclosure when the parties are undertaking border exercises and for the reduction of troop levels in the border areas. It also allows the parties to observe and inspect troop movements in each other territory upon invitation. 

This agreement provides measures to strengthen democratic government including the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of government. It also calls for the subservience of the military to civilian rule and for the restructuring and reform of the security sector.  

The agreement establishes implementing structures and arrangements during a transitional period before a new Regional Autonomous Government is established.
