During the annual Security Council Open Debate on women, peace and security held on 24 October 2024, the Secretary-General’s “Common Pledge for Women’s Full, Equal and Meaningful Participation in Peace Processes” was officially launched.

In line with the landmark resolution 1325 (2000) on women, peace and security, the United Nations in its mediation and peacemaking efforts, has sought to fast-track women’s direct participation in formal peace talks as part of promoting women’s participation at all levels.

By signing the Common Pledge of the Secretary-General, global mediation actors, including UN Member States, Regional Organizations and other mediation actors can join the United Nations in committing to take concrete steps on women’s full, equal and meaningful participation in all peace processes of which they are a part.
