The agreement provides for the resolution of the conflict through power-sharing arrangements and self-administration of the Southern Kordofan/Nuba Mountains and Blue Nile States.

This protocol provides for the resolution of the conflict in the Abyei area through the self-administration of the Abyei area during a six-year interim period to be followed by a referendum on the political future of the area.

This agreement establishes the cessation of hostilities between the parties and proclaims a 45 days ceasefire. The parties shall stop any military action or any kind of hostile act, and free all the prisoners of war. The parties shall also facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance in Darfur. The agreement also calls for the creation of a Ceasefire Commission to monitor implementation of the agreement.
