Islamic Law, The Rule of Law, and International Peace Operations

This is a conference report concerning Islamic Law, the Rule of Law, and International Peace Operations. The report gives an overview of the conference discussions, including: the sources and jurisprudence of Islamic Law; the interaction between Islamic legal and moral principles and international law, and the rule of law more specifically; the major challenges in maintaining and strengthening the rule of law in Afghanistan, Somalia, and Sudan, along with the key Islamic law issues and the actors relevant in these countries; and recommendations regarding the relationship between Islamic law and post-conflict peacebuilding.
