An Analysis: 2013 Fiji Government Draft Constitution
This report, written by an independent non-governmental organization, is a review of the 2013 Government Draft Constitution in Fiji. It canvasses the four general shortcomings in the draft itself (overly powerful executive, limitations in the Bill of Rights, insufficiently independent judiciary, and a lack of public participation), the inadequacies of the constitution-making process, and provides a chapter by chpater analysis of the document. It also highlights two major omissions from the Government Draft Constitution, namely women's rights and land and governance rights for inigenous peoples, and finally, it provides suggestions and recommendations for future iterations of the Constitution of Fiji.
